Kia ora koutou
Since I last wrote I’ve been furiously collecting memories about the Old Mangere Bridge. In December, the Manukau Courier featured me and my project on their front page and since then I’ve been contacted by so many people it’s hard to keep up with communication.
Also over the summer I placed a number of posters on the Old Mangere Bridge. The posters invited users of the bridge to share their memories of the bridge with me. I received an absolutely overwhelming response. Thank you Mangere Bridge communities – it’s very obvious you love your bridge and I now feel a great responsibility to create something that illustrates that devotion.
Over the next little while I’ll post images of the memories that were shared. The memories are funny, sad, heartwarming, and like the many fishers on the bridge, they hook you right in.
Here are the very first posters. I attached them to the bridge on January 10th and removed them on January 13th absolutely choc-a-bloc full of memories.
I love these stories. I’ll bring you more soon …
